Hong Kong + Macau Day 5

13/4/2011

It was last day in Hong Kong.
Booked the late flight back so that i would still have slightly more than half a day to spend.

Instant noodle soup w Luncheon meat, Boiled Vegetable w
Oyster Sauce, Roasted Chicken Noodle

Had a Hong Kong style brunch at a random eatery near our hotel.
Food was average.

After our meal, we went back to our hotel for check out.

Gotten with us the heavy luggages and proceeded to CityGate Outlets (東薈城名店倉)
Alight at MTR: Tung Chung Station

It's just about 10mins from the airport. It is a good place for last minute shopping and great deals for international brands. Eg. Kate Spade, Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger... etc!

It's about time to end my Hong Kong trip... BUT before that...

Just before you leave this lovely island...

Have your 'last' meal at Hong Kong International Airport's Qian Shao Bai Wei (千燒百味)!!

They are always having a queue, not because they are slow, it's because the food is nice and reasonably priced. For the past 2 times i visited, i would order their famous roasted meat combination. They have a few choices. Regular Roasted meat rice,  Twin/Triple Combinations rice! If you wanna try 2- 3 types of their roasted meats the combination set will be the best for you...
Roasted Char Siew and Duck rice combination
The most recommended one: Roasted duck

Roasted Meat Selection: Duck; Barbecue Meat; Chicken etc..!

Of course, other than the roasted meat items, they do have other food items like sandwiches, noodles and more.

Address: Hong Kong International Airport

Hong Kong + Macau Day 4

12/4/2011

Hi all, it's day 4 in Hong Kong!

Lets start the day with Hong Kong famous chain eatery outlet Tsui Wah Restaurant! (翠華餐廳)

The one i went to was the one near my hotel located at Tsim Sha Tsui.
They have many outlets across the whole of Hong Kong island, Kowloon, New Territories and even spread to Macau and Mainland China.

They are always full during meal hours. Do come 1/2 - 1 hour prior meal time, to avoid waiting and the crowds.

Crispy bun served w sweet condensed milk 奶油豬
First on list. This is a must try in Tsui Wah.
Although super sinful, the indulgence is definitely worth it.

The bun is soft inside and crispy on the outside.

Glazed with butter and sweet condensed milk. The irresistible taste of it makes you finished it instantly! :P
Fish balls rice noodle in fish soup 魚蛋河粉湯 +
Milk Tea 奶茶

To be frank, i really don't appreciate the milk tea. It's extremely BITTER. I tried adding in sugar, but it doesn't seems to help.

The rice noodle soup was nice too. The fish balls were fresh and bouncy! The rice noodle absorbed in the sweet fish soup, however not turning soggy.

Sizzling prawns w fried noodles 鐵板蝦球炒雙面黃

Estella ordered this.

I tried the prawn. Juicy and fresh. Mixes well with the sweet and sour sauce. Tagging along was the crispy noodle.

After lunch, we started shopping around Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay...

In the evening, we made our way to Central (中環) Station for the popular THE PEAK (香港山頂).

After alighting at Central Station, exit J2... It's within walking distance to the Peak Tram Lower Terminus.

Tickets for the peak tram + Sky pass + Madame Tussauds Museum are available at the Peak tram terminus.

However, there are other ways to get to the peak other than peak tram. Eg. Bus, taxi.
For more information can visit: http://www.thepeak.com.hk/en/2_1.asp

But i think riding in the peak tram on the steepest railway in the world, is the quickest  (7mins) and most memorable way to get to the Peak.

While queuing up, waiting for the arrival of the Tram...

Finally the tram arrived...

We sat the wrong side of the tram.
Estella and Me

Always remember to take the seat on the RIGHT hand side of the tram... Because most sceneries are on the right! If you took the wrong side like us, you will most probably be seeing trees and branches only! :'(

Of course there are much more than these....

After the museum tour, it was time for our dinner....

Dinner at Hong Kong Day Cafe (香港地), just outside Madame Tussauds entrance.

Wanton soup, Stir fried rice noodle w sliced beef, Vegetables in Oyster Sauce & Stir Fried egg noodle.

This showed how yummy the food were and how hungry we were! HAHA!

After our fulfilling meal, we went up to the Sky Terrace 428.

It's standing at 428m above sea level, is the highest viewing platform in Hong Kong.

It was chilling that night. Keep shivering cant even snap the camera well.

Even though nothing really spectacular, but still worth visiting at least once in your Hong Kong Trip.

Proceed on to Lan Kwai Fong, a place for nightlife. Alight at Central Station, Exit D2.

Lan Kwai Fong (蘭桂坊), a place to venture for night life. It has award winning restaurants, to bars and clubs. Indulged yourself for the night with music and drinks.

We left Lan Kwai Fong shortly after a virtual tour around. Returned back to our hotel area, for supper!

Supper for Day 4: Pork and century egg porridge & soft butter cake

Hong Kong + Macau Day 3

11/4/2011

Good Morning to all! I'm back in Hong Kong on my 2nd night and had a good sleep on my very small and cosy hotel room.

From now till 5pm i will be exploring HK on my own! Why 5pm? Because, my friend Estella will be joining me from SG! And.. we will be switching to another hotel.

After preparing myself and checked out of the hotel, it's now time for food and shopping! Hence, i walked from my hotel (WanChai) to the next station, Causeway Bay. It's not that far actually, 15-20mins walk i think.
Combed most of the major malls in Causeway Bay but bought nothing, but feeling super hungry!

I then came to this restaurant called: Spaghetti House at JP Plaza.

Angel Hair Pasta w Seafood in Lobster Sauce

I     ordered their Lunch Set Meal. Which consist of a spaghetti, a drink and a bowl of soup.

One thing i love drinking ice- lemon tea in HK (be it in Char Can Teng, Cafes, Restaurants): You are always being served pure tea with lemon slices, and a separated sugar syrup dispenser/ jug. Hence, you can add it to your preferred sweetness for the tea! (Unlike in SG, most of them are already pre-sweetened)

The first thing i did when they served me with the soup was to skim through it with the soup spoon. Seeing the pathetic ingredient (seaweed & more seaweed) in the soup, i was cursing inside: "WTH, just because it's a set meal, you are serving this kind of sub standard veggie soup?!"

I took the first sip, i took another, i proceeded on with the third. It was YUMMY!
(I'm sorry Soup, i shouldn't have said that you look like a pathetic sub- standard soup.)
It was smooth and creamy. Slowly leading me to the base of the soup bowl...

The Angel Hair pasta with seafood in lobster sauce was surprisingly nicer than what i expected by its look! The seafood were fresh and blended in well with the rich flavor lobster sauce! Angel Hair pasta was cooked to perfection softness and was complemented with the velvety lobster sauce. YUM YUM! :P

Open:      11am- 1130pm

After the satisfying meal, i went back to the hotel to collect my luggages that i had left with the reception.

Me, looking super pissed.
As you can tell from the picture, i looked pissed. Because, my luggage was very heavy, the weather was warm, the streets were crowded and i had to carry these stuffs up and down the different flights of stairs of the MTR stations.

Finally able to board the train, heading to Tsim Sha Tsui, Kimberly Hotel.
Had a little hard time locating the hotel, as it was not along the main road, but at the inner streets, a slight distance from the MTR station. After making a few rounds, i was relieved to be suddenly 'enlightened' to walk into the inner street and at last saw the hotel.

Went up to the hotel lobby, having the mind set that there will sure be seats for me to rest while waiting for Estella.
Hotel lobby
There was a sofa with seating for 7 (if im not wrong) right in front of the reception counter. But it was all occupied by this group of French tourists whom were waiting for their tour guide to process their check in. As a result, i can only stand beside a pillar resting my bum lightly on my luggage.

WHY?! Why aren't Estella here yet... She's supposed to reach earlier in the afternoon. However, due to the delay in flight, she at last managed to reach the hotel at 5pm+.

CHECKED-IN...

Haha, so much different from my previous hotel.

Although Kimberly Hotel is a much bigger and established hotel then Mingle Place. I still think that the coziness and cleanliness Mingle Place is still more preferred.

After resting our feet, we headed to the MTR station and alighted at MongKok Station. Exit B2, in less than 5 mins walk, you can reached Langham Place Shopping Mall!

Langham Place- A 15-storey mall with integration of fashion, entertainment, dining and more shopping.

We went into a Chinese restaurant at level 4 called: Chee Kei (池記雲吞麵家)

Estella Ordered: Beef Noodle + Vegetable in Oyster Sauce 牛腩面+ 油菜
Me: Wanton noodle + Soy Beancurd 雲屯面 + 豆花

I have never like to eat this kind of Wanton noodle. Because, i find that the noodle has a very strong machinery smell and taste. Im really not sure how does the smell and taste came about, but if you do eat this kind of noodle, maybe you will know what i mean.

Nevertheless, i really LOVE the soy beancurd in Chee Kei (池記). The soy beancurd is smooth and soft. And they will have a little of this half MELTED brown sugar syrup poured over the beancurd.
Resulting it being not too sweet, but enhanced the flavor of the plain beancurd.

Last but not least, my supper for the day after some shopping
at MongKok.

Chocolate Soyabean Milk + Fried Noodle from 7-Eleven
& Fruit cake from Maxim's Bakery (available at most MTR Stations).

The fried noodle really doesn't look nice when i bought it straight from the warmer in the convenience stall. However, the taste turned out to be surprisingly well and the noodles are not soggy as it seems to be. (Can try if you are hungry at night for light supper.)

The Chocolate Vitasoy became one of my favourite drink in HK then. But now it's easily available in SG already.

Thats all for my day 3 in HK. :D
